Queen of the Night (Selenicereus Grandiflorus) is one of the most famous cactus species. It flowers usually in the summer and is a typical night flowerer with a fragent reminding of orange-flowers or vanilla. Around ten o'clock in the evening the brown cupleaves open up and exposes its off-white interior. When the morning comes, the flower has withered. Even in the 1950s it was customary to gather in homes and watch when the Queen of the Night cactus blooming. This custom has been known since the latter half of the 19th century. This species is not particularly beautiful when it blooms why it later came out of fashion.
