A sole bat lives in the church tower. She boils red cordial to nurture from during the long winter hibernation. The fruit and berries were plucked from bushes and trees that bloomed in the spring with sheer petals. In recent months they transformed from hard and green to soft and juicy and now everything is almost overripe. In the hot water vapor, the juices seeps out and mixes with sugar. Cordial is summer saved in a bottle. After peeing under the harvest moon, round and yellow as a cheese, it is time to crawl into bed. Her dreams are red and steaming.
